Paul brings a wealth of experience, with a deep commitment to his local community.

William “Paul” Slough was raised on a fourth-generation dairy farm in Charlevoix County.  After graduating from Michigan State University and obtaining his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Paul returned to the area with is wife, Brandie, to raise their family. They currently reside with their three children at Fleming Farm near Elmira.

Paul has practiced civil, criminal, and probate law for 18 years across Northern Michigan. He previously served as a judicial law clerk in local Otsego County courts, as well as a Special Assistant to the Attorney General assisting Adult Protective Services in probate court.

In 2015, Paul partnered with Ron Kirkpatrick and Steve DuBois, where he continues to practice at the firm of Kirkpatrick, Slough, Duitsman-Coy & Mott, PLC. He serves as public administrator for the probate court, as well as the Otsego County Indigent Defense Commission Contract Administrator. Paul is also a trained mediator and actively volunteers to mediate cases for Community Mediation Services.

Paul is currently the City Attorney for the City of Gaylord, and represents local townships including Chester, Otsego Lake, and Elmira.  He has been involved with a number of nonprofit boards, including Community Mediation Services, the Otsego County Community Foundation, and Kiwanis.

In his free time, Paul loves spending time with his children; especially helping with homework or playing strategy games. Paul is also a runner; in the past two years he completed the Charlevoix Marathon, the Bay Shore Marathon, and the Marquette Marathon.
